MS-FAST Outreach - Events and Workshops

The MS-FAST provides a series of outreach events and workshops throughout the year. These events are aimed at helping promote and better educate Mississippi's small businesses to better compete in these highly competitive programs. They provide opportunities to meet with federal SBIR/STTR program managers, topic authors, and resource providers. The following schedule is subject to changes and updates. It is recommend that one check back within 30 days prior to any listed event for the latest information and how to register.

SBA SBIR Road Tour – (Virtual), MS. This virtual event is part of a national outreach effort connecting entrepreneurs working on advanced technologies to the country’s largest source of early stage funding – the SBIR/STTR programs. Also known as America’s Seed Fund, the SBIR/STTR programs provide over $3.7 billion in funding to small businesses each year in a wide variety of technology areas. The event provides registrants with an opportunity to hear directly from the participating federal agency program managers that administer over 5,500 new awards annually and to meet one-on-one online with program decision makers.

Annual Navy SBIR/STTR Topics Workshop – Gulfport, MS. The MS-FAST program in partnership with the Louisiana FAST program and the MIST Cluster hosted with the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) a Navy live stream SBIR/STTR event at the USM Marine Research Center at the Port of Gulfport. The NAVSEA and NAVAIR SBIR Program Management and subject matter experts discussed the Navy's 2020.1(a) SBIR/STTR topics that were in pre-release. A representative from the NAVSEA SBIR Program Office was on hand to meet one-on-one with interested parties. Representatives with Ingalls Shipyard were also on hand and available for meeting. A tour of the Marine Research Center was provided highlighting the capabilities and resources available for subcontracting in support of an SBIR/STTR project. SBIR/STTR Train the Trainer Workshop – Jackson MS. Held in conjunction with the ACCELERATE: 20TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION. This mini workshop was aimed at those working in economic development, small business assistance, and entrepreneurship programs. This workshop provided a general working knowledge of the federal SBIR/STTR programs, latest updates to the programs, how to identify small businesses who may be a good fit with these programs, and resources for these clients.
