The Marine Technology Society's Gulf Coast Section's annual Oceans in Action conference was expanded this year to a two day event and included an industry day sponsored by the MIST Cluster on the second day.

Keynote:  Rear Admiral Timothy C. Gallaudet, USN, Oceanographer and Navigator of the Navy; Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command. Other speakers and presenters included:

 

  • Dr. Herbert Eppert, Superintendent of the Naval Research Laboratory's Marine Geosciences Division

  • Helmut Portmann, Director, NOAA's National Data Buoy Center

  • Sharon Mesick; Chief, Coasts, Oceans & Geophysics Information Services and Coastal Data for NOAA's National Center for Environmental Information

  • Craig Peterson, NASA's Surface Water Topogrophy Mission

  • Dr. Pasquale Roscigno; Chief, Environmental Studies Program, Gulf of Mexico Region at Bureau of Ocean Energy Management
